I first got my UK pressing of “God Save The Queen” by The Sex Pistols at the St. Louis location of Peaches Records and Tapes. I had heard it on FM radio and was intrigued. It was a single with the UK spindle hole rather than the US 45 center cut. I loved that single. There was a sense of change in the air with it.
The Sex Pistols represented an upending of Rock and Roll. As early as the mid-70s, a sense of change was in the air. The Sex Pistols brought it full scale with a whole hell of a lot of spit and piss in the wind. Some of us liked it; some hated it. Regardless of your stance on the new emerging Punk scene, it was here. And The Sex Pistols helped lead the way.
Unfortunately, they fell of ship and drowned before they has a chance to mature further. But they left us with plenty of material to enjoy. Of course, Johnny “Rotten” Lydon went on to form Public Image, Ltd, while the other band mates went on to other projects, or mischief (Sid Vicious).
