Cover_Midori Art Of MidoriSay what you may about violinists, but it is truly a mystical art. It’s not just simple enough to learn to play. It requires something far more reaching than the ability to technically play the small but powerful instrument. It requires an inner reservoir of intensity that the violinist draws from to create the music heard from it. The same can be said of a saxophone. In fact, the same can be said of any instrument. But there is something very mysterious about the music that emanates from a violin.

One of those rare artists is Midori. Her real name is Midori Goto, a Japanese-born American artist that learned the instrument before she was six years old. Since, she had made incredible strides for herself. By the time she was 15, she was in Julliard, and had performed with the likes of Zubin Mehta, and Leonard Bernstein. To date, she has more than 15 albums released including an Essential title, and a live set.

On May 6, Sony Classical Masterworks will re-release a 10CD Box entitled The Art Of Midori. It will provide access to more than 100 tracks drawn from her many released Masterworks albums.

I’m a huge violin fan (and saxophone, primarily alto sax). To me, the instrument reaches further into the heart than any other instrument.

I hope this bit of Midori news is as exciting to you as it is to me.
