The Libertines started back in the late ’90s with Carl Barât and Pete Doherty as the mainstays. They released two brilliant albums, Up The Bracket (2002), and The Libertines (2004). Eventually, bad will and decaying friendships left the band in tatters, and they broke up with what looked like no hope for the future.
Pete Doherty went on to assemble the equally great Babyshambles band, while Carl Barât formed several bands with Dirty Pretty Things, and The Jackals, as well as a solo set (as did Pete Doherty). So…they’ve been busy.
As luck would have it, Doherty and Barât would put the bad blood behind them, and plan the eventual release of a new album. That album, Anthems For Doomed Youth, will be released on September 4. The new album and its standard edition will feature twelve tracks. The Deluxe Edition will provide four bonus tracks.
Anthems For Doomed Youth will be released on CD, Deluxe Edition CD, LP, DD, and a Super Deluxe Edition with all of the music, and formats included as well as a film, and signed art prints.
The album’s first single, “Gunga Din”, is currently available.
