One of our great saxophonists, Richard Elliot, who has played his tenor sax to the pleasure of many connoisseurs of Jazz has a new album on the calendar. Once a member of the mighty Tower of Power band, this Scottish-born sax player has released a huge expanse of excellent albums that include On the Town (1991), and After Dark (1994), as well as the excellent In the Zone from 2011, that contains a brilliant jazz saxophone rendition of Marvin Gaye’s chilling “Inner City Blues (Makes Me Wanna Holler)”. His first album was Trolltown from 1986.
On July 15, Heads Up International will release Lip Service from Richard Elliot. If you’ve any doubt, a quick listen to his versions of “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, and “Imagine” could sway you. If you’re like me, and you’re a sucker for great saxophone, then you’ll be an instant fan.
