Back in the late ’70s, after Punk exploded, giving birth to the varied sounds of New Wave and Post-Punk eras, a band emerged called Urban Verbs. Once Talking Heads claimed a large audience, the similar sounds of Urban Verbs caught the attention of labels. The band actually incorporated the brother of Chris Frantz, whose name was Roddy Frantz. With showings at CBGBs, the band soon landed a contract with Warner Brothers and released two albums, the under-appreciated 1980 eponymous issue, and its brilliant 1981 follow-up, Early Damage.
On October 4, the Netherlands label, Music On CD, will reissue Early Damage with no extra takes (although unreleased Eno-produced tracks exist…somewhere). I am not sure if the music has been remastered but I have hopes that they were. I am excited for this reissue myself.
Early Damage will be released on CD and DD (for the digital realm). Treat yourself. If you were/are a Talking Heads fan, you owe it to yourself to investigate Urban Verbs.
With this news, guess which two albums I’m spinning today!
