Faces were one of those bands destined for greatness but just never arriving there. With a dynamic frontman in Rod Stewart, who was fast becoming a hit-maker of his own, a studied and legendary guitarist in Ron Wood, and the still potent remains of the Small Faces (Lane, McLagan, Jones), Faces became the band that rivaled other legendary bands like The Rolling Stones, etc). Unfortunately, alternating forces were pulling the band apart at the seams until just four short years and four albums later, Faces were no more.
On September 6, Rhino Records will release an 8CD/BD box set that will tidily encapsulate the band’s years on the stage. This set, to be called Faces At The BBC: Complete BBC Concert & Session Recordings 1970-1973, will provide a completionist package to capture the hefty life stage performances from Faces on various BBC stages. The 8CDs will cover a lot of ground while the BD-Audio will add gem-status to what is already a stellar collection of Peel sessions and other things related to the BBC. This box follows on the heel of the 2LP BBC package released for RSD a few months back. The 48-page booklet looks to be a nice add to the collection.
Faces At The BBC will issue on 8CD/BD and DD.
