The Pogues entered the world of Post-Punk with an entrancing blend of punk and traditional Irish music. The world of music hasn’t been the same since. With seven titles in their catalogue, The Pogues gifted the world with an extraordinary collection of songs that include “Dirty Old Town”, “Fairytale Of New York”, and “A Pair of Brown Eyes”. And those are the familiar tracks; to not list more is a bit of a crime for this brilliant band that lasted from 1984-1996 (albums-wise), and a few years younger as a band. With the recent loss of Shane MacGowan, we have endured our sad moments. Nevertheless, in classic MacGowan fashion, we tip a shot to the band once known as The Pogues.

On September 19, The Pogues remember a particular place in time with the reissue of a classic set, Rum Sodomy & The Lash. Produced by Elvis Costello, this second album issued on Stiff in the UK, and Warner in the US gave us the memorable “Dirty Old Town”. In celebration of the album’s 40th anniversary, Rhino will bring together a 2CD package with the album, and an extra disc with the Poguetry In Motion EP and a collection of original B-sides and BBC session tracks.

The 40th Anniversary of Rum Sodomy & The Lash will be celebrated with 2CD, DD, and a collectible Red Marble vinyl 2LP package.
