Virgin Records, in their first release as a fledgling record label in the days of growing labels from scratch, released Tubular Bells as it first offering. The album gained worldwide success due to the hypnotic arrangements by Mike Oldfield. Part of the new music was used in the 1973 William Friedkin-directed film, The Exorcist. This soundtrack helped to launch the careers of both Mike Oldfield and Richard Branson‘s Virgin Records. Tubular Bells went on to radio success and became an icon of instrumental music. From the first album, an Orchestral Tubular Bells emerged leading to Oldfield revisiting his classic set with continuations like Tubular Bells 2, Tubular Bells 3, and The Millennial Bell, as well as a 2003 re-recording of the original album – Tubular Bells 2003.
On May 23, Rhino Entertainment will revisit Tubular Bells 2003 with a reissue that will cover both CD, DD, and transparent blue vinyl LP. There’s not much information regarding this release other than it’s on the books and calendar for arrival soon.
Enjoy the information as you will…or won’t.
