Status Quo, after a few albums eventually struck a nerve in a growing fanbase with their 1972 release, Piledriver. That album scored more than a few million in sales worldwide. For more than 15 years, the band throughout a few changing lineups, kept the dans engaged, especially in the UK where support never faltered as drastically. One of their albums, the extraordinary Live! set recorded from a tour in 1976 and issued in 1977, performed quite well on the charts and satisfied a legion of fans. Live! went on sell more than a few million copies worldwide, with more than 2 million in Australia alone. Live! represented three nights at the Apollo Theatre in Glasgow on October 27th, 28th, and 29th, 1976. The best performance tracks were pulled from those dates to create one of the more enduring Live album in rock history.
On May 16, Edsel Records (Demon Music Group) will release an 8CD boxed set of the legendary Live! set that will not only feature a brand new remaster of the original album maintaining the original mix, but will do what I have long maintained that Wishbone Ash should do with Live Dates – release all three nights in their entirety from which the original album’s tracks were culled from. This makes Live! a monumental treat for those that appreciated the band. The new box will be the Deluxe Edition of Live! It will pack in a new and informative booklet with new notes to make the set a must have package.
