Camel formed in 1971 joining the legions of emerging Progressive and Jazz-influenced bands arriving around the same timeframe. They released their eponymously titled album in 1973 after being signed by MCA Records in the UK. Released by the label not long after its release, Camel got a new label and released what is considered the band’s finest set in Mirage. Subsequent Camel recordings (all excellent works) were the all instrumental The Snow Goose (1975), Moonmadness (1976), Rain Dances (1977), Breathless (1978), I Can See Your House From Here (1979), Nude (1981), and six other sets.
On February 28 of 2025. Esoteric Recordings (Cherry Red UK) will revisit the music of both Moonmadness, and Mirage to reissue them in 2CD/BD Box sets that will feature new mixes especially in 5.1 surround and hi-resolution Stereo. It is, after all, both albums’ 50th Anniversary period (or nearby for Mirage). The Boxes will supply the original albums in newly remastered Ben Wise tracks, and with the 5.1 and hi-res Stereo mixes by Stephen W Taylor. The albums have a collection of bonus tracks (7 for Mirage, 4 for Moonmadness). The box sets for both albums will pack in booklets with essays.
The Blu-ray disc will provide the original album in 5.1 Surround, Hi Resolution stereo Mixes, Original Stereo mix. The Moonmadness BD will add in a 6 performance track live video of their April 14, 1976 show at the Hammersmith Odeon in London.
