Average White Band, also known as AWB, helped merge a soulful jazz with Rock during the early ’70s. Their biggest hit was “Pick Up The Pieces”. For the duration of their peak period, they released seven studio sets (13 altogether from 1972 through 2018). The Scottish band could do no wrong as their best selling album, Soul Searching, sold over a million copies in 1976 despite not charting higher than AWB, and Cut The Cake worldwide,
On February 2 of 2024, Edsel Records (Demon Music Group) will celebrate the career of Average White Band with a massive 15CD Box filled with 133 tracks from their storied and celebrated career over 50 years. This set will pack in the AWB collection from the first album (Show Your Hand – 1973) and including Cupid’s In Fashion from 1982. Their US-favored double live album – Person To Person (1976) is installed as well. Also packed in will be the debut album in its re-released form that had different cover and track selection, and the 1980 compilation set of Volume VIII. A detailed booklet will accompany the box and will remembrances from Hamish Stuart, Owen “Onnie” McIntyre, and Alan Gorrie. The box will be called simply AWB 50.
Bonus discs and tracks will include a collection of 12″ remixes, rare picks, and live tracks.
