Devo was an essential transition band going from the ’70s style pushing into the ’80s New Wave style. They got their start with their sprightly cover of The Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”, and FM favorite of “Jocko Homo”. Those were elevation tracks from their 1978 debut. They followed with a second set in 1979 and a best-seller in Freedom Of Choice in 1980. That album produced “Whip It” and three other singles. Subsequent albums were satisfactory for fans but let the fickle masses fall away. It would be extraordinarily hard to dismiss Devo as a band of note from the ’70s and ’80s.
On October 20, Rhino Entertainment will gift fans of DEVO with a 2CD collection of fifty tracks overlooking fifty years of evolution…or, as the band would say, de-evolution of DEVO. The collection is being called 50 Years Of De-Evolution: 1973-2023. All tracks are newly remastered. You can hear the 7″ version of “Disco Dancer” below.
This set will be released on 2CD, DD, along with 2LP black vinyl that holds 25 tracks, and a Limited Edition (3000 copies) 4LP Clear vinyl set holding all 50 songs. The 4LP set will present clever labeling to create the word DEVO, a Devo air freshener, a 28-page booklet, a litho of the album cover art, and a foldable replica of the popular DEVO red telescoping headpiece.
