You can’t talk ’60s and ’70s Rock without mentioning The Who. They played an integral part in its formation and its advancement with stellar recordings, stage shows, and pure musicianship. After the success of Tommy, the Rock opera, Townshend set upon a new project to be called Life House. Life House became too burdened by a number of internal issues, which forced the band to cherry pick from the songs recorded for it. Those songs became Who’s Next. Released in 1971, Who’s Next easily became a classic. With tracks like “Baba O’Riley”, “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, and “Behind Blue Eyes”, the album sold more than 4 million copies worldwide.
On September 15, The Who celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Who’ Next with a MASSIVE display of music and print that will encapsulate both Who’s Next AND Life House within a 10CD/1BD Box that features all newly remastered tracks – 155 in all – and a collectible 100-page hardbound book. Rounding out this box will be an assortment of extras that include a 172-page graphic novel of Life House, several posters, program replicas, four pin button collection, and a photo with printed autographs. The Blu-ray will provide Dolby Atmos and 5.1 Surround mixes of Who’s Next promising to take your appreciation of the album to a new level.
Who’s Next / Life House will be released in the 10CD/BD Box outlined above, as well as single CD of Who’s Next, 2CD for Who’s Next / Life House, single LPs in 180g-weight black vinyl, a Half-Speed mastered black vinyl, and a transparent Blue color vinyl. There will be 3LP and 4LP sets included with the 4LP set adding in a newly mixed December 12, 1971 show in San Francisco. The Box will contain session tracks and demos, and two live shows.
