Horslips is a Rock band that started back in the ’70s with a popular peak period from 1970 to 1980, and with nine studio albums during that period. They integrated a Celtic style with Rock to create an interesting blend that attracted fans. They set the stage for the likes of The Pogues later on. Admittedly, I only had their Aliens (1977), and The Man Who Built America (1978) sets, both of which I enjoyed.
On July 29, Madfish Records will produce a definitive and exhaustive 50th Anniversary 33CD/2DVD Box (much as they have with Wishbone Ash, John Mayall, and will do with Al Stewart) that will be titled More Than You Can Chew. The 33 CDs will provide the original albums through 1980, all newly remastered. In addition, there will be collections of outtakes, single mixes, non-album tracks, rehearsal tracks, live recordings, sessions, alternate mixes, acoustic re-recordings, reunion era albums, and post-Horslips activity. These 33 CDs will hold a whopping 506 tracks, with 252 of them previously unreleased.
The 2 DVDs will hold two documentaries and look at Horslips during two periods (1973-1979, 2004-2019). Much of the material found on the 2 DVDs will be previously unreleased stuff.
The Box will pack in a 256-page hard-bound book, an 88-page lyric soft-bound lyric book, five 8″ x 10″ signed photos (a pricier box will include a rare poster authentically signed by the band – pre-order that here), 1970 facsimiles of Fan Club sheets, and a reproduction poster for a 1972 Dublin show at National Stadium.
