It’s easy to be a fan of Pink Floyd from their magnificent display of perfection heard in The Dark Side Of The Moon on through until the unfortunate departure of Roger Waters. But they produce a mind-bending array of albums prior to that 1973 classic. That’s a whopping seven released albums that include The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn (1967), A Saucerful Of Secrets (1968), More (soundtrack to film) (1969), Ummagumma (1969), Atom Heart Mother (1970), Meddle (1972), and Obscured By Clouds (1972). It is from those albums that a treasure chest of remixes, alternates, BBC sessions, outtakes, and a wealth of other goodies are found. Luckily, they are being collected and assembled into a magnificent, if costly, set that will definitively provide every facet of every jewel that arose from that illustrious period.
On November 11, Pink Floyd Records will unleash a mind-boggling and completely comprehensive box set that features 10 CDs, 8 BDs (Blu-ray), 9 DVDs, and five 7″ vinyl singles, not to mention a few other things that complete the set. Things like posters, flyers, tickets, and the largest collection of memorabilia you may have ever seen in a single package. There are seven volumes of book-styled sets within that look at each period and release.
The box is being called The Early Years: 1965-1972. It will offer 130+ tracks with 20 of them previously unreleased. There will be over 14 hours of video including five hours of rare concert footage from these periods. The collectible inclusions of five 7″ singles that replicate exactly their first five released UK singles. The printed material includes more than 100 photographs, and 40 pieces of memorabilia in special wallets.
Six of the seven volumes will be released separately in 2017, however the volume titled CONTINU/ATION will remain an exclusive bonus to the Boxed set ONLY.
As a companion release, the band will release a 2CD distillation called CRE/ATION: The Early Years 1967-1972, which will contain 27 selected tracks, 19 of which are previously unreleased.
Folks, this IS a Boxed Set!
