Fans of Mike Oldfield will no doubt be a bit excited (if they aren’t already) by news of a new expanded remaster on the calendar for 2016.
The news is that Discovery, his ninth solo effort, originally released in 1984, will be the next up in the slow but sure reissue campaign for Oldfield. Discovery followed up on Crises, a popular title released the year earlier in 1983. Crises had enjoyed a strong European interest. And while Discovery performed well on the charts, it didn’t seem to capture the same excitement among fans. Certainly the musical landscape was changing, and had been for a number of years. None of this, however, deters a serious fan.
Discovery is expected for release on January 29 with material that includes new material, bonus tracks from the past, and a DVD filled with three promos, and high-def Stereo and 5.1 Surround versions of the original album.
The 2CD/DVD Deluxe Edition will provide a new compilation using music from Discovery and The Killing Fields. The composition is being called The 1984 Suite and will clock in at 38 minutes. It is included on the DVD as well as both Stereo HD and 5.1 Surround.
The 2CD/DVD Deluxe Edition of Discovery is the prized package. However, it will be made available as a single CD, a 180g-weight vinyl LP set, DD, and HD DD.
Also to be made available (same date) are The Killing Fields in vinyl LP and single CD remaster, including two bonus tracks, and an LP version of The 1984 Suite.
