Kodiak DeathbedsIf you’re a fan of the Canadian band, Black Mountain, then you are no stranger to the voice of Amber Webber. For me, her voice is a standout. When Black Mountain is not doing anything (and they are a slow band. It’s been five years since we’ve heard anything new.), then the members are out doing a variety of projects. Amber is one of the busier of the group. A few years back, she recorded the excellent Fantasy album with Joshua Wells, (as Lightning Dust), who is also a member of Black Mountain. Since, she has recently released a digital version of her latest project, Kodiak Deathbeds.

She formed Kodiak Deathbeds along with Derek Fudesko (recently of Cave Singers). The band is a stripped down folk showcase that cannot go bad with Amber Webber at the mic.

The new album is filled with ten reflective tracks that are for the fan. They’re laid back affairs, contributing to the grace that Webber’s vocal range provides, and the gentle guitar of Fudesko. And if you’re a fan of either of these artists, or both of them, then I cannot recommend Kodiak Deathbeds enough for you. I’m not crazy about the name, or many of the names used by bands these days, but I can tell you, the album is worth the listen and purchase.

Amber and Derek

The album is streaming at several locations but primarily via Band Camp. The album can be physically had on vinyl LP with 50 available on a limited run of 50 for the hand-numbered version, and 450 of the standard vinyl issue.

It also bears noting that Amber Webber has publicly stated that Black Mountain is in the act of putting together new music for a new release. Yay!
