In Rock’s baby years, the English band that became well-known as Eric Burdon & The Animals displayed an amazing blend of blues and pop to attain a high placement on the charts. With such songs like “We Got To Get Out Of This Place”, “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”, and the number one hit, “The House of the Rising Sun”, Eric Burdon & The Animals cemented their place in the hallways of the rising music style. Their tenure as a band didn’t last too long. But the band produced a welcome string of eight albums in the US.

On February 21, Esoteric Recordings will release a 5CD Boxed set of all of the band’s MGM albums including a rare edition of the mono version of Winds of Change. It will be called When I Was Young: The MGM Recordings 1967-1968. In addition, a collection of ten bonus tracks will be added to make the set even more enticing. All of these albums and their included bonus tracks are newly remastered from the original masters.

The boxed set will provide a well-produced booklet that will feature photos, and a new essay. A poster will accompany the set as well.

  1. The band that produced the hit singles mentioned was called just ”the Animals”
When they split their singer Eric Burton started a ”new” band with a ”new” name which I believe only included Eric Burton from the ”old” band.

    1. The band lineup did change, yes, but several of the songs on this new set were hits. “san Franciscan Nights,” “Monterey,” “When I Was Young,” and “Sky Pilot” were all hit singles in the U.S., and most of them were in the U.K. as well. Also, a few more songs that charted as singles in one or both countries, such as “White Houses,” (An excellent track) and their cover of “Ring of Fire.”

Further, lots of groovy album tracks, including their killer cover of “Paint It Black,” and lots more. This era is still an essential part of the Eric Burdon story. Well worth checking out.

Further, there’s some great album tracks too.
