Because we’re a community, I’d love to take an opportunity to ask you a question. I’m a BIG Psychedelic Rock fan since its emergence back in the ’60s. So much so, that I’m thrilled and pleased with the neo-Psychedelic Rock from bands like Mien, The Black Angels, Brian Jonestown Massacre, IO Echo, etc, etc of this day and age. I am constantly on the look out for new and exciting talent in this genre.

And so, with that, I’m asking those of you who like bands like The Black Angels to forward to me your favorite indie bands that have a cool music. I’m open to a lot so post away.

Here’s a Black Angels video, an IO Echo video, AND a Mien video below:

  1. Hi Matt

Try Lucy in Blue from Iceland – they have two albums out and you can sample them on Bandcamp. The first album is more post rock with psych elements, the second I think will really give you that early Floyd vibe.
Also, any albums by Crippled Black Phoenix should do the trick.

  2. Definitely check out the last 20 years or so of music by The Church – often pigeonholed as an 80’s/ jangly band (which they largely lived up to til the mid-90’s) they have gradually taken a deep trip into psychedelia, space rock and prog elements since they relaunched themselves around ‘98 or so

Huge and almost impossibly dense catalog of music that should definitely check the boxes you mentioned!

  3. Hi Matt,

I think I’ve got a couple psych bands for you.
The first is 1886 and their album is called “Before the Fog Covers the Mount”. The band is from Barcelona Spain. A very interesting take on the genre.
The second is Samsara Blues Experiment. To me, anyway, very psychedelic in the way the guitar’s displayed especially in the album “Long Distance Trip”.
I have others but they’re a mixed genre utilizing doom elements into the psychedelia.
    Check out 1886 at:
